Anagallis monellii
Electric blue and absolutely not subtle, Anagallis monellii is a dazzling Mediterranean native that smothers itself in bright gentian-blue flowers up to 1" across, each one flashed with a surprising pink eye and sunny yellow anthers. The color is so vivid it almost looks lit from within — a perfect little shock of blue for the front of the garden.
Neat, compact, and wonderfully floriferous, Blue Pimpernel grows about 10" tall and 20" wide, making it fabulous for edging, rock gardens, containers, dry garden borders, and sunny pathways where its jewel-toned blooms can be admired up close. Use it as a striking contrast with warm orange flowers like Ursinia anthemoides, glowing foliage such as Heuchera ‘Marmalade’, silver companions, or soft ornamental grasses.
