Fragaria chiloensis - Carole Ann

Fragaria chiloensis - Carole Ann

A beautiful California native beach strawberry, Fragaria chiloensis ‘Carole Ann’ brings glossy foliage, large white flowers, and vigorous groundcover performance to coastal gardens, native plantings, slopes, containers, and hanging baskets. Introduced by Tilden Botanic Garden in 2015 and found in the dunes at Bodega Bay, this special selection is both ornamental and wonderfully useful.

‘Carole Ann’ Beach Strawberry forms a dense, low mat about 4" tall, spreading by runners to fill between rocks, edge garden beds, stabilize slopes, or soften container plantings. The shiny leaves are highly showy and may blush red in winter, adding year-round interest. In spring, large 2" white flowers appear generously, followed by red-seeded white berries for even more charm.

Plant Fragaria chiloensis ‘Carole Ann’ in sun to part shade with well-drained soil. Once established, it is very drought tolerant and easy to grow in garden conditions. Explore more groundcover favorites in our Fragaria - Strawberry plant collection.
