Thalictrum rochebrunianum

Thalictrum rochebrunianum

Light, lofty, and almost impossible to ignore, Thalictrum rochebrunianum is a graceful Japanese meadow rue with thick, sturdy upright stems that rise 6–7' tall before bursting into huge clouds of lavender-pink flowers. The airy blooms have a columbine-like delicacy, creating a soft, floating effect that looks spectacular in perennial borders, woodland edges, cottage gardens, and part-shade plantings.

Also known as lavender mist meadow rue, this deciduous perennial returns each season with impressive height and refined texture. The flowering clouds can reach up to 3' across, making even a single plant feel like a garden event. It is especially beautiful with ferns, hostas, foxgloves, roses, grasses, blue flowers, and other romantic shade or part-sun companions.

Plant Thalictrum rochebrunianum in rich, loamy, well-drained soil with regular water for best performance. Cut back to about 1" in fall after dormancy. Deer resistant and wonderfully architectural, it may ship dormant until May. Explore more garden-worthy perennials in our Best Selling - Perennials & Biennials collection.
