Verbena bonariensis - Lollipop
Verbena bonariensis ‘Lollipop’ gives you the much-loved butterfly power of tall verbena in a shorter, bushier, more container-friendly form. Also known as dwarf tall verbena or purpletop vervain, this compact selection reaches about 2' tall and 3' wide, making it easy to use at the front of beds, mid-border, along pathways, or in large pots.
From spring into late fall, and often close to December in mild climates, ‘Lollipop’ produces airy clusters of purple flowers that hover above a rounded mound of foliage. Butterflies love it, bees visit constantly, and hummingbirds may stop by too. Its relaxed habit looks fabulous with grasses, salvias, yarrow, echinacea, cosmos, and other pollinator garden favorites.
Plant Verbena bonariensis ‘Lollipop’ in full sun with well-drained soil. It is easy, low maintenance, pest resistant, and drought tolerant once established, though prettier with occasional summer water and an annual side-dress of compost. Cut back to 6" in winter.
